COVID-19 FAQs

Yes, Day Camps will be operating this summer and the first week of summer camp is July 5. For more information visit the Summer Y Guide.

Safety measures have been set by Public Health. For an in-depth look at the current safety measures please click here. In terms of Overnight Camp the government has yet to release regulations and we are closely monitoring their pending release to ensure we resume operations safely. .

Before participating in a Camps & Outdoor Education program, all participants and staff are screened with questions provided from Public Health that are designed to screen for illness.

All YMCA Camps & Outdoor Education staff are required to wear a mask. Masks are not required when eating or drinking. Staff that are facilitating the screening for staff and campers will wear a face shield and gloves.

All campers and participants will be required to wear masks and/or face coverings while at camp and in program. The use of masks is not required under two specific situations:

• For outdoor camp activities if physical distancing of 2 metres can be maintained between camp participants and cohorts are maintained.
• When campers and partcipants are eating and drinking.

Parents/guardians are responsible for providing their child(ren) with masks. If children are given disposable masks, we advise providing extra daily in case of contamination. As regulations continue to evolve, YMCA Camps & Outdoor education will follow the guidance of local public health units and provincial regulations.

At all times while campers, participants and staff are in program, physical distancing will be encouraged. All program offerings will be done in a safe manner with respect to physical distancing.

All locations will have thorough cleaning and disinfecting measures in place. There will be staff to dedicated to cleaning and disinfecting to ensure that this is being done. There will be limited shared spaces and equipment, and in the case that supplies are shared, there will be thorough cleaning between use.
